Contact Lists
Organize contacts into lists for targeted campaigns. Lists help you segment your audience by criteria like industry, company size, lead stage, or campaign type.
What Are Contact Lists?
Contact lists are collections of contacts grouped together for a specific purpose. A contact can belong to multiple lists simultaneously.
Use Cases
- By Industry: "SaaS Prospects", "E-commerce Companies", "Healthcare Leads"
- By Stage: "Hot Leads", "Nurture List", "Dormant Contacts"
- By Source: "Webinar Attendees", "Conference Leads", "Website Signups"
- By Campaign: "Q4 Outreach", "Product Launch", "Case Study Follow-up"

Managing Lists
Adding Contacts to Lists
There are several ways to add contacts to lists:
- During CSV Upload: Select list when importing
- Bulk Add: Select multiple contacts, click "Add to List"
- Individual Add: Edit contact, select lists from dropdown
Removing Contacts from Lists
To remove contacts:
- From List View: Select contacts, click "Remove from List"
- From Contact: Edit contact, uncheck list
Note: Removing from list doesn't delete the contact, just the list membership.
Deleting Lists
- Navigate to list
- Click Delete List
- Confirm deletion
Note: Deleting a list doesn't delete the contacts, only the list itself.
Launching Campaigns to Lists
When launching a campaign:
- Select Target Type: Contact List
- Choose list from dropdown
- All contacts in list will receive sequence
Important Notes
- Campaign captures list membership at launch time
- Adding contacts to list after launch won't add them to campaign
- Removing contacts from list after launch won't stop their emails
List Statistics
For each list, you can see:
- Total Contacts: Number of contacts in list
- Created Date: When list was created
- Last Updated: When contacts were last added/removed
- Active Campaigns: Campaigns currently targeting this list
Best Practices
Naming Conventions
- Be descriptive: "Q4 2024 SaaS Outreach" not "List 1"
- Include date/timeframe if relevant
- Use consistent naming pattern across all lists
List Organization
- Keep lists focused (100-500 contacts ideal)
- Create separate lists for different industries/segments
- Archive old lists instead of deleting (for historical reference)
Campaign Targeting
- Test with small list first (10-20 contacts)
- Use specific sequences for each list type
- Don't send same sequence to overlapping lists (avoid double-emailing)
💡 Pro Tip
Create a "Test List" with 10-15 contacts (including yourself and team members) to test sequences before launching to real prospects. This lets you see exactly how emails look, test placeholders, and verify timing before risking your reputation with actual leads.
